What is the School Premium?
The School Bonus (or annual age supplement) is an annual allowance for every child. The term School Premium is somewhat confusing, as you are entitled to it even if your son or daughter doesn't attend school. You are paid an amount from the birth of your child until the end of your child benefit entitlement.
- The school bonus is transferred to your account at the beginning of August, together with the Child Benefit of July.
- All children are entitled to it, regardless of whether or not they go to school.
- There is no need to fill in an application form, as payment happens automatically.

Practical information about the School Premium
The School Bonus is an allowance for all children from birth until the end of their entitlement to Child Benefits. It is paid automatically.
Who receives the School Premium?
The School Bonus is added to the July allowance (payment at the beginning of August) and paid to the person who receives the Child Benefit or Growth Package.
When is the School Premium paid?
You receive the School Premium automatically at the beginning of August. This amount is paid together with the Child Benefit.

How much annual Age Supplement do you get?
The amounts depend on your child’s age and the region he or she lives in. We have listed the most recent School Premium amounts for you below.

What is the Study Allowance?
Unlike the School Premium (to which every child is entitled), you are only entitled to the Study Allowance if your family and child satisfy certain criteria. The Study Allowance is the new education allowance for minors. Like the Scool Premium, this Study Allowance is automatically paid if your family is entitled to it.
Being a single parent doesn’t automatically entitle you to a social allowance.
Your family income must not exceed a certain threshold to be eligible to receive this. The fact that you are a single or divorced parent likely has an influence on your family income. This may make you eligible.
The threshold amounts and the composition of this Social Allowance depend on where you and your children live: Flanders, Brussels or Wallonia.

You are entitled to a Social Allowance if your gross family income is less than a certain threshold. We receive an overview of your total family income from the FPS Finance, based on your tax return.
Your definitive data is only available 2 years later.
For example, your 2019 income will only be available in 2021.
Thus it is only possible to make a (definitive) validation of your Social Allowance entitlement 2 years after the date.

If your family income changes, this can affect your entitlement to the social allowance and the selective participation allowance (school allowance). Your family may be entitled to supplementary child benefit in addition to the standard Growth Package and Child Benefit amounts (to which every child is entitled). You can view all types of supplementary child benefit here.
