Income-related allowance, the new Social Allowance in Brussels
The social allowance is completely dependent on your situation: your place of residence, your income and your family situation.

KidsLife ensures that you automatically receive what you are entitled to. We examine the entitlement to this allowance for every family in Brussels, so you do not need to apply for it. Quite handy, right?
The automatic granting is based on the tax data obtained from the FPS Finance. For the granting of social supplements for one year, we obtain the tax data from the FPS after 2 years. These data are linked to two income ceilings in order to calculate the amount of supplement to be paid (see below).
Example: For the granting of the social supplement for the year 2020, we get the tax data in 2022 (tax return in 2021 on the income of 2020)
We will also pay social supplements provisionally without application for single parents with only replacement income for at least 6 months in a year.
If we find that at least one parent receives at least 6 months of a living wage from the PCSW, we will also provisionally pay the supplements without application.
For all other situations, you can always request a provisional payment of the social supplements. In this case, you must enclose proof:
- for Belgian workers and civil servants: a copy of a recent salary sheet
- for benefit recipients: a copy of the benefit certificate (certificate from the payment offices of the RVA, the RIZIV, the Federal Pensions Service, the trade unions or the mutual benefit societies);
- or self-employed persons: a certificate from the social insurance fund indicating the amount on which social security contributions are calculated or the estimated income.
Please note: this is a provisional payment. The declaration will always be checked against the tax data of the FPS Finance.
For families abroad or who are not in Belgium for the whole year, the social supplement is granted via a form. Proof of income must also be attached.

Do you live in Flanders or Wallonia?
In Belgium, all families on a lower income may be entitled to a Social Allowance. The conditions and amounts vary per region. Social Allowance by region:
Being a single parent doesn’t automatically entitle you to a social allowance.
Your family income must not exceed a certain threshold to be eligible to receive this. The fact that you are a single or divorced parent likely has an influence on your family income. This may make you eligible.
The threshold amounts and the composition of this Social Allowance depend on where you and your children live: Flanders, Brussels or Wallonia.
KidsLife automatically pays your Social Allowance if you are entitled to it! We do this following receipt of your tax return. We always receive this 2 years after the income year.
Example:
We (re)evaluate your Social Allowance for 2019 in 2021. We receive confirmation of your 2019 income from the federal government in 2021.
Eligible for this allowance and prefer not to wait 2 years? Contact your KidsLife adviser to submit an application.

You are entitled to a Social Allowance if your gross family income is less than a certain threshold. We receive an overview of your total family income from the FPS Finance, based on your tax return.
Your definitive data is only available 2 years later.
For example, your 2019 income will only be available in 2021.
Thus it is only possible to make a (definitive) validation of your Social Allowance entitlement 2 years after the date.
Already received a Social Allowance payment? Then we will check whether you have received this correctly.
Not yet received a Social Allowance payment? Then we will examine your eligibility and potentially pay the supplement retroactively.
